Fudan University Graduate Research Fellowship 2007 - Alternates

The Center for East Asian Studies and the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations announce the search for an alternate for a research fellowship for a graduate student to spend spring or fall semester of 2007 as a visiting student in the Chinese literature department at Fudan University in Shanghai.

Students who will complete their qualifying PhD exams by the end of Summer 2007 are now eligible to apply. The fellowship is open to all University of Chicago graduate students, but your application must explain specifically how your project fits the focus of a Chinese literature department.

There are no application forms --- applicants should submit the
following materials in hard copy:
1. A statement indicating the expected date of completion for your exams.
2. Two letters of recommendation.
3. A statement of purpose (no more than two pages) outlining the research you
plan to carry out while at Fudan.
4. Your Curriculum Vitae

A student cannot receive a Fudan fellowship more than once.

Terms (for one-semester stay):

The Research Fellow will be welcomed to all classes, seminars, and workshops at Fudan, but will not have the option of registering in courses for credit. He/she will have access to all the resources at Fudan that are normally open to regular students, such as libraries and gym facilities.


Round-trip airfare provided by the Center for East Asian Studies

Fudan University will provide the following:
Housing in its standard dormitory for international students
A stipend of RMB 2,000/month
Standard student health insurance (the fellow may choose to keep his/her own insurance)

For a year long stay
Possibility of extended housing in the dormitory (paid by the Fellow) and continued privileges at Fudan University.
