
Biography
Prof. Han Ce received his doctoral degree from Peking University in 2015. He is the author of Power Transition and Late Qing Politics: A Study of the Rise and Fall of Hunan-Native Governor-Generalship in Liang Jiang and the Changing North-South Relations(《江督易主与晚清政治》,北京大学出版社,2023),Reform of Imperial Examination and the Last Group of Jinshi (《科举改制与最后的进士》,社会科学文献出版社,2017). Professor Han also has published more than a dozen inspiring journal articles on the history of late Qing dynasty and Early Republic of China. His newly articles are The Interactions between Provincial Governors and the Grand Council: A Case Study of Governor Hu Linyi’s Networks in Beijing(“疆吏与军机如何互动? ——胡林翼的京城联络及其意义” , 近代史研究 (Modern Chinese History Studies), no. 4 , 2023; Internal Disturbance, External Threat: European Imperialism, High Politics in Beijing, and the Rise of the Taiping Rebellion in the Early Years of Xianfeng Emperor(“内争助成‘内患’:咸丰初政与太平天国的兴起”, 社会科学研究 (Social Science Research), no. 5, 2023. He was a visiting professor at the Institute of Sinology, University of Freiburg, Germany in July 2024, and a visiting scholar at the Institute of Modern History, Academia Sinica, Taiwan in 2016.
Currently, Prof. Han is working on late Qing reforms and Qing interest in the US political system, in particular the 1904 visit of Prince Pu Lun (elder cousin of last emperor Pu Yi) to the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis.
