Feifan Li

I’m interested in the Chinese socialist experiences, both the possibilities that eluded them and the historicity that constrained them. Previous attempts at this problematic include an exploration of Jiang Qing's theater intertwined with her everyday experiences of 1930s Shanghai, and an inquiry into the epistemologies of fieldwork in the 1930s Chinese countryside. I hope to further explore the intervening space between artistic representation and material labor in twentieth-century China, as well as Marxist political economy in relation to an intellectual history of socialist China.
