I am interested in the complex interplay between technological culture and literature in early modern China, a focus that originated from my M.Phil. thesis. My thesis centers on the theme of hypnosis in short stories and novels, where I argue that non-scientific cultural elements, such as spirituality and literary tropes, are foundational for understanding, conceptualizing, and even employing new media and technologies. I aim to investigate both technological and literary transformations through the lens of weapon technology in the eighteenth century and its resonances in the early nineteenth century.
Originally from Northeast China, I pursued my BA and MPhil degrees in Hong Kong.
